What you are looking at
The set begins in late April with drone frames of the old roof. The shingles are faded gray and streaked with dark stains. A hip roof slopes down on all four sides, so there are no tall gable ends, only ridges, hips and a few valleys.
Photos from early June show the middle of the job. The old shingles are gone, and the slopes are sheathed in new OSB panels before the underlayment goes on. A gray synthetic underlayment then covers the OSB, fastened with red-topped caps. Bundles of Atlas Pinnacle Pristine sit along the ridge with the name readable on the wrappers. No color name shows, so this page describes the color as it looks.
A few days later the main roof is covered. Up close the granules mix charcoal, slate and a few lighter flecks, so from the street it reads as one dark gray. A black ridge vent runs along the peaks under the cap shingles, a narrow slot that lets hot attic air out at the top.
One slope frame shows two white box vents and two plumbing pipes coming through the new courses. Earlier frames show the pipe flashing: a metal flange on the underlayment with black sealant around the collar.
Out back, the screened lanai has its own small roof, shingled to match the house. The neighbors' roofs in the photos are red and brown, so the dark gray stands apart. Roof size and the color name are not in the job file, so they are left out here.
