What you are looking at
The first frame was taken from the roof at dusk. Looking along a hip, the new shingles run in straight courses and read as a soft taupe, with tan and gray tabs mixed in. A row of white static vents sits on the far slope, and a dark line at the top marks the ridge vent.
A second angle looks across a hip from the other side. Two slopes meet at the cap, and the courses on each side stay level right up to it. A neighbor's two-story house stands past the roof edge.
Hip caps are the folded pieces that cover the joint where two slopes meet. The delivery photos in the job file show Atlas Pro-Cut Hip & Ridge on the pallets. In the close frame the caps step down the hip, a little lighter than the shingles around them.
Along the ridge, cap shingles cover a ridge vent, a low strip that lets hot attic air out at the peak. A box of Atlas TruRidge Standard Ridge Vent shows in the delivery photos. Near it sit white static vents and one gray pipe vent for the plumbing.
At the edge, the courses stop at a white gutter, which runs straight along the eave above red-leaved plants. In another frame, the courses from two roof planes meet along a diagonal line beside the gutter, which jogs outward at the corner.
The bundle wrappers in the delivery photos read Atlas Pinnacle Sun, beside a pallet of WeatherMaster Ice & Water 200 membrane. From the garage corner at dusk, the shingles look dark gray. Up close, they are taupe.
