What you are looking at
From the roofline, the new roof reads as slate gray under a winter sky. Up close the tabs mix charcoal, pale silver and a hint of blue, with a dark shadow line under each course. The first photo follows one long slope to the ridge, with neighboring roofs and a few palms beyond.
Bundles were set out on the dark underlayment before the shingles went down, and a white drip edge ran along the eaves and rakes. The shingles are architectural, in a slate gray blend.
The ridge is the main feature. A strip of ridge vent runs along the peak under capped shingles, a low channel that lets hot attic air out at the top. Florida attics get hot, so a way out at the ridge matters.
Smaller vents break up the slope. A round black solar attic fan sits near the ridge, its small panel facing up. Beside it are a galvanized box vent with a rounded hood, a thin black pipe vent and a small white vent cap. Shingles are cut and lapped around each one.
The edges are white. A white gutter hangs along the eave, with a downspout and short elbow beside a post over tan lap siding. Under the gray sky of the last day, the same shingles look closer to charcoal. At a front gable end, a round green louver sits in the gable siding above a gravel bed with red flower pots, and a lower roof covers the entry below.
Along the side, the roof edge runs above a gutter, a gravel strip and an air conditioner, with a neighbor's blue house beyond. This page shows only the finished roof.
