What you are looking at
Webster is rural Sumter County, and this house sits back among oaks and thick undergrowth. The photos look down on the roof from above, with bare ground, leaf litter and green brush around the edges.
The shingle is a light gray blend with flecks of cream and tan mixed through it. Against the dark green of the trees it is the brightest thing in every frame, and on the cloudy afternoon in these photos some tabs show a warmer beige than others.
The first photo looks down a hip end of the main roof with a lower hip section in front of it, so two cap lines point toward the camera. Every hip is capped with shingles lapped one over the next from the eave to the ridge.
Along the main ridge, a ridge vent runs on both sides of the peak, and its black mesh edges show beside the caps. Hot attic air rises and leaves through that opening, which helps through a long Central Florida summer even under shade trees.
Farther back, a metal vent pipe with a round cap, a small pipe vent and a galvanized box vent come through the back slope. A few oak leaves had already landed on the new shingles.
The gable section has its own rake edge, finished in gray-green trim that overhangs the main roof where the two meet. Past it, oaks hung with Spanish moss and a cabbage palm frame an open field under the gray sky at the end of September.
